The base material used in each bag in our collection is pirarucu leather, a rare amazonian material plucked straight from the river, from the scales of the Arapaima gigas, the largest freshwater fish in the world. This material is known for its size, strength, and cultural importance, and it has a texture that is both striking and very rare.
Natively, the fish is a spiritual legend, said to be a former indigenous evil warrior that was turned into a fish as a punishment for its transgressions.
No matter its history, our use of this material shows a commitment to responsible sourcing, supporting sustainable practices, and adherence to the same techniques that have existed since antiquity, brought to us by the communities that have lived in harmony with their environment since time immemorial. The results, of course, speak for themselves.
